FAQ
As a sole trader in Finland, known as a toiminimiyrittäjä, you run a business in your own name and are personally responsible for its obligations. Your bookkeeping separates business income and expenses from your personal finances. You cannot pay yourself a salary. Instead, you can take money out as personal withdrawals, which are not business expenses and do not reduce your taxable profit.
Sole traders must keep records of their business income and expenses and retain receipts and other supporting documents. Many small sole traders can use single-entry bookkeeping if they meet the legal requirements. Your records must provide the information needed to calculate your business result and prepare your tax returns.
You must also submit an annual business tax return to the Finnish Tax Administration. If your business is VAT-registered, you must submit VAT returns for each applicable tax period.
The best accounting software suits your business and makes everyday tasks easier. Look for straightforward invoicing, receipt storage, support for Finnish tax returns and access to help when you need it.
Kletta is designed for sole traders. You can scan receipts, send invoices and manage bookkeeping, VAT returns and business tax returns in one app. You can also choose a plan that includes support from an accountant.
Not necessarily. You can manage your own bookkeeping if you know how to record transactions correctly and submit your tax returns on time. You remain responsible for ensuring that your bookkeeping is properly maintained, even when you use an accountant.
An accountant can help when you are unsure about deductions or your business involves more complex tax questions. With Kletta, you can manage your bookkeeping yourself with Solo or choose Duo or Care for additional support from an accountant.
